Angry Faerie is an ongoing webcomic that has been going strong for 2 years running. She’s a punk rock faerie and she’s mad at the world and she’s created and drawn by Scott Springer who lives right here in Colorado. I had a chance to talk with Scott over the phone and we discussed comics, video games, our favorite artists, you know, the regular geek stuff. Scott is a self taught artist and when i asked him how Angry Faerie got started he explained that he had been thinking he wanted to work on something of his own and wasn’t sure what. Someone came up to him and asked him to draw a faerie and it clicked. Faeries tend to always be drawn so cute and flying around sprinkling their dust on everything or something. Not this fairy. She’s dark, punk rock, goth, wears platform boots and carries an axe. Here is a rather amusing scene i found in Scott’s strip that really accentuates the difference in faeries.

If you scroll through all 2 years worth of posts of Angry Faerie you will see some changes. In the beginning it’s mostly gags that Scott has done a great job of putting together using other pop culture faeries and fantasy creatures from Tinkerbell to the Keebler Elf. However if you hump to the most recent you will see that Scoot has shifted to a larger format and is telling more complete stories. Both are really good and Scott says he tries to slip the gags into the story pages now.
Scott say he loves comics and some of his influences are George Perez, Akira Toriyama or Dragon Ball Z fame, Adam Hughes, Jeff Smith-creator of Bone and Neil Gaiman.
Angry Faerie updates every Monday. Wednesday, and Friday and Scott says he has no current plans to end the strip. There seems to be quite a following checking out this cool webcomic so do yourself and Scott a favor and go check it out. www.angryfaerie.com
